Round Up at the OK Corrall
Item: I have a horrific headcold. Also sore throat and general malaise. I deeply and sincerely apologize to those of you whom I may have infected with the plague on Saturday night. On the other hand, don't you think plague germs added to the Spooky Forest Theme?
Item: Speaking of which, our Halloween party rocked, if I do say so myself. I think everyone had a nice time! It also gave me a good sense of how many folk can fit into our apt. which is happy news for later shindigs. Costume highlights included our friend Andy who came as a laundry basket;
magnetgirl as Elphaba from Wicked;
faris_nallaneen as Halloween Scrooge complete with grey wig, obesity pamphlets and a basket of toothbrushes, apples and raisins.
Item: Yeshiva University is going kind of eh. I had a craptastic observation in which the kids were super-silent, and the observer (in front of the boys!!!) informed me that they were "playing" me - and that I needed to be much stricter, and humiliate them in front of the class when they obviously hadn't done the reading, and that I was too nice. Prof. Snape, I am not, I guess. I hate being found fault with, and I have to go back and see those kids in about two hours. Grrrrr. How humiliating.
Item: I am so behind on my prospectus! However, I have finally switched fields, and am now doing kidlit for reals! Yay! Now simply to get to work...
Item: And now, television. Soothing balm to my soul...spoilers for most recent episodes under the cuts.
Friday Night Lights: So, I was extremely unsure about this season. I watched the first episode and was kind of eh about the whole "big story." Also, was non-plussed at the implosion of family dynamics and general sadness of most of the characters. HOWEVER last night I could wait. no. longer. And I caught up. OMG. That last episode made my little heart explode with joy, and I feel myself all caught up with squeeing eeepitude once more. EVERYONE should watch this show. It actually dared to be all poly and awesome and I love everyone, and it makes me weep and smile and want to watch it over and over. Too bad they'll probably take it all away soon - because let's not forget this show's mantra: What's the worst thing that can possibly happen????? Oh God.
Supernatural:This third season is going awesomely so far. Nice broadening of the mythology; they've achieved all the grey-ing of the universe that Joss was always striving for in later seasons of Buffy & Angel but so rarely managed to do consistently.
Heroes:I am really disappointed so far. While there are still moments of teh awesome, I am really bored with the 16th century Hiro nonsense. Also while Mohinder & Matt are gay & amusing, I am SO TIRED of plotlines that depend on characters being really, really stupid. Kristin Bell is being Veronica Mars with the tazer implanted; so far no problems with that, because I like Veronica, but I am not exactly blown away by their originality. And while I appreciate the multicultural, international flavor that they're trying to put in - it just doesn't...work. I mean, the Irish guys have got their frigging top-o'-the-morning-lucky-charms accents, and it's just ridiculous. And don't get me started about likelyhood of 16th century Japanese & English being at all comprehensible to a 21st century time traveler. WTF? Nathan is cool as ever, but see above about plotlines that depend on smart characters being stupid? And when did Peter become so ace at drawing? Wasn't he on stick figures just a few months ago? Did he stop for drawing lessons while he and Nathan were exploding IN SPACE???? Claire and West continue on being epicly stupid. Although I think the lad might be evil, so some hope there. Anyway, looks like tonight we might have another 'what if' and I say 'about time!'
Soon I'll update about Gossip Girl, Bionic Woman, Moonlight, Journeyman & Dexter. Till then!
