About FoB... Thing is, I've read a few stories with Boe that I actually liked, but what hangs me up is how he gets to that point. For example, if you assume he ages 1 year for every thousand that pass (and most fanfic that ages him, has him aging faster than that), then in something like 100,000 years he'd be around 140, and likely completely bedridden. Now that might sound like a long time, but compared to billions of years more? It's tiny. So then I wonder how many millions of years he gets to spend completely helpless and unable to do anything for himself, and that's the part that I just don't want to think about...
OK, I'll stop being maudlin now. Yes, it is a TV show, it's just that it's hard to stop an engineer from considering numbers :-) Still, my own personal canon for how Jack finally dies (and hopefully, you don't mind a rec) will always be This is How the Universe Ends (http://googlebrat.livejournal.com/505772.html) Um... which actually mentions him becoming Boe, but he gets over it :-)
