I grew up with John Pertwee and Tom Baker (my fave until 9 & 10). It was a rite of passage to hide behind the sofa when the music came on at 6pm on a Saturday evening. The Daleks were terrifying to us 70's kids.
So when RTD got his teeth into it I felt it my parental duty to make sure my own kids got Who'd. They are totally addicted! And not scared, usually.
As much as I love a lot of US tv I just don't think anyone does low budget tv like the Brits. I mean, sometimes the effects are utter bloody rubbish, but it makes me love it more. Torchwood included (I don't separate the two either, except my kids are too young to watch it).
As for the sonic screwdriver; my husband is already planning ways to whip it out at work (he works in automotive; no surprises we're in Detroit)!!
I saw Rach had mentioned not trying pugilism. We were rather over-enthusiastic at trying it on our new Wii. I am still struggling to lift up my arms LOL, the pain! I used to play rugby; I've always found being told something is for boys only an irresistable challenge.

btw; I do not indiscriminately comment on everything I read as being excellent. All your praise is rightly earned.
