i think i worked out it was going to be the Face of Boe from the moment Ianto saw the paintings, of the single person who went on after all others were dead. I know one of you has written Face of Boe fic, because i think that was how i found this story, and this version didn't disappoint; you capture the intense alien loneliness of immortality and memory loss and yet there's still that... charisma which is the very essence of jack. the fact that the Face's main attendant-priest is someone very similar to Ianto amused me delightfully, too.
i can only say this so many times but: good god your Jack Harkness is amazing. i think the fragments of reaction to the team were almost my favourite parts of this fic. and I like the future team, the way you're deftly characterized a few OCs with some choice description and key sentences. although the name Ravi makes me think of a certain red-headed Bookman from the animanga series D.Gray Man... i don't know if that was intentional or not, but I liked it either way. Jack hitting on Maeve was great, too, and deliberately antagonizing Rhys.
but of course the stand-out moments were, of course, Ianto's emotion (his illness upon realizing that the face was Jack was something i felt in my own gut) and your intangible dark philosophy which always twines through your fics. "all times are now" indeed.
i liked, too, that you characterize your Doctor with a sharper edge; despite all his Tenth-y David Tennant mannerisms I could feel through every inch of this that whole Oncoming Storm thing; his tension with Ianto was magnificent, as well his reasoning behind the whole expedition (though i sort of hate him for it, the littlest bit... it's all right, he's like Jack in that the things he does are somewhat unforgivable, to the reader/viewer and the other characters, but they both end up mostly forgiven anyway.)
i know i'm going to have to reread this again to pick everything up; this fic is getting very tangled; in the show and in its previous pieces, don't you think? tangled in a good way, all that "intertextuality" stuff. so I'm definitely looking forward to the final piece, because I'm quite certain you will take all the threads and masterfully loop them into something devastatingly cohesive. of course, at the same time, i feel a reluctance to see the end of this fic (and have to say, well, that's it, there is absolutely no more) which i don't usually even feel about tv shows.
i can only say "you guys are great" so many times and in so many words, but please believe this has definitely made my christmas a million times better. so thankyou.
