I've written with people other than Kali, but these were things that at least started in a more RPG environment. Several of those people I've never even met. One became a good friend. One is now a successful/famous author. So no, you totally don't need to be in the same place physically as someone to do it.

That said, Kali and I can do this the way we do it and make it as seamless as I think it is because we know each other really well and know each other really well on a lot of the issues that this fic touches on. We've also been writing together for like four years now.

Writing in the same room is something we'll be trying to for the first time once we finish this arc in a couple of weeks, as we are determined to bang out a draft of a novel while my partner is in Oman on a dig.

And yeah, sometimes I'll totally call Kali up and be like "So wait, explain the timeline to me again. And what do you think about a fisting scene?" And I'm like, on the bus or something.
