Requiscat in Pace, Maestro

Somehow, I can't quite believe that Pavarotti is dead. Another little piece of my childhood seems to have crumbled away. "Two Tenors" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Also, he was one of our models for Rodolphus from [livejournal.com profile] descensus_hp, so that's another little random sadness.

Amen.

My mom wrote me this morning:

"Oh Mirabai, Luciano is dead.. I will play his operas all day and cry. Love, mama."

That about sums it up. Poor Pav. I'm glad he chose singing over soccer.

Yes, it's so weird to be getting old enough to be able to say to my students, "You know, when so-and-so did such-and-such," and have them go, "Huh?" *whipspers* "Oh! That ancient dead dude!"

I dunno, though -- Two Tenors alliterates better...

Poor love. I woke Ian up this morning with the news. I just shook him awake and said "Pavarotti!" and he sat up and said, "Oh no, is he dead?" and then we both watched NY1 announce his demise before I said, "Yes." Almost as if I didn't want to believe it, and made NY1 say it for me...

...I'm so fucking tired of people being sick and dying I don't even know what to say.
