The massive chaos involved in the whole thing is just so mind boggling. I'd almost got used to the one shot suicide bomb things. But a gun battle that goes on for several days? Fanaticism is so alarming on so many levels. And now...escalation! Yay!

I am lucky; I had no friends or family in the region, for which I'm thankful. It's just hard to watch the country getting torn apart now. Not that it was ever very stable, but this is horrific.

Family and friends are accounted but people known to them have been killed or have been held as hostages.

The whole thing was... I dunno what... but it was brilliantly executed - they achieved what they wanted to -- destabilisation of the nation and fear-mongering.
