Matt Smith? Who is this guy? Um. Okay.

Also, I was really looking forward to a black Doctor.

Well, I'm looking forward to seeing this dude in motion. Hopefully it'll make an impression.

I worry for this guy, actually. Filling Tennant's shoes is gonna be... wow. I'm overwhelmed.

ETA: And [thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ryo_girl] here's his first Doctor publicity still. They should give him a question mark. Doctor Who???

This guy looks like a fetus! Seriously, talk about wet behind the ears. Which could be a good thing. He can be whatever, and maybe the storyline is for the Doctor to sort of unload all the baggage of the Time War, and the heartbreak attached to all the new series companions, and start... afresh. Reborn, actually.

I shall hope for the best. And this kid must have had a spectacular audition.

Pic of him as the doctor -

He's really going to have to be good, because (and yes I am a bit shallow here) Tennant is very attractive and I'm not feeling this guy yet, and people will totally judge him on how hot they think he is.

I actually like the choice for someone who isn't a big name. Can he pull it off? Gonna have to wait and see, I suppose. Sad for him that people will have one year to build up resentment towards him until he can prove if he is any good.

Totally! I am hoping for the best, but am still sort of like, huh?

Doctor Who Announced. Reaction is "bzuh???"

Sure. I'd just (foolishly) got attached to the Paterson Joseph idea. And he's very, very young. Which is a bit weird in my head. But I'm totally ready to give him a chance.

I hadn't seen anything from Paterson Jospeh past the Who stuff he'd done, so while I'd seen him favored I'd never gotten attached there. More attached to Morrissey as an idea previous to the christmas special (and after it happy it wouldn't be him), so yeah-- quite happy with this one, I think, even if I find the choice of going even younger interesting (and Tennant was, while being older, acting him younger a lot of the times-- maybe Smith can pull off some of the darker stuff in different ways, thinking more Eccleston again-- will be interesting). But at this point- it's all speculation. Just can safely say I can't wait to see him, rather excited there I have to admit.

I like him. Then, I like that kind of guy too...no, not pretty, thank goodness I say. Not pretty is far more interesting.

It's way out of left field, but I'm kind of pleased. Hoping that maybe he goes for a Peter Davison thing where (in contrast to Tennant) he acts older than his real age. It'll be... interesting, that's for sure.

I have to say I'm glad they didn't go with Paterson Joseph, though. As much as I liked him in Neverwhere, I couldn't get past him as that prat in series one enough to ever really accept him as an option. :(

He will grow on me, I'm sure. Actually, he's growing on me already, and I haven't even seen him move. It was just unexpected, and I'm not too fond of surprises. But I am anxious to fall in love, again.

Still, I am also in the grasp of mourning. I really love Tennant.

I think I have found this fandom in order to learn to accept change. It is very hard. I get very attached, and I love Ten beyond the telling of it. But this guy's growing on me, and I am cautiously optimistic.

*g* I do hope one day, the Doctor regenerates into a not!white dude, but I can wait.

I confess I know nothing about Matt Smith, but just watching that short interview I think he's going to be a great Doctor. And maybe the less preconceptions we have about him the more able he'll be to make the part his own.
I can only think THANK GOODNESS they didn't give it to Neil Morrissey of Men Behaving Badly.

I was just telling someone that at least he still has a few regenerations left. You know, to be not white. Or ginger, lol. ;D

I haven't been able to watch the interview itself yet, but I am cautiously optimistic, and he's growing on me, quite a bit. Embracing change is hard, yo. But yes, far rather an unknown, (who, as I've said, probably gave a spectacular audition) is vastly preferable to a known quantity of suck.

Aiieee. I'm of two minds as regards this whole finding out very slowly a year before the regeneration. I'd rather just have been surprised, frankly.

It's true! And who knows if they're even going to stick to the old number of regenerations. It could go on forever! He could be a snake next! or eric Roberts.... (which is worse???)

I was so hoping we'd get a black guy and the only acknowlegement would be a quick "Wow, so not ginger. Okay, right. Now, who's trying to destroy the universe? Oh, those aliens. Look at that!"

I'm a bit stunned, frankly, Partially because he's younger than my twins and partially because I've never heard of him.

On the other hand, Peter Davidson was one of my favorite doctors, and he was only 29 when he started playing the part. Maybe they could have him act like he's older than he actually is. Give him a sort of gravity that lets us know even though he looks like a kid, he's still a 900+ year old Time Lord.
