start me up...

fictionalon my way to work this morning, i grabbed the bus and it was playing one of those cheezy pop songs that were so popular a few months ago. truth be told, it actually didn't irritate me. in fact it was bouncy and happy, and i caught myself mouthing the words. the radio station that the bus driver had tuned to was Lite 97...so it was about what you would expect, easy listening, etc, etc...the next song that they played though, was Start Me Up, by the Stones. i was confused. what is it about music that makes it less hard with time. the rolling stones were considered hard rock last i remember, and now they're gracing lite 97. how weird. it was the same feeling i got when i heard metallica's enter sandman on the generic hard rock station.
but i never listen to the radio anymore, so perhaps that's why it took me by surprise.
i'm doing quite well this morning. while sleeping next to someone is quite nice, there is something to be said for mornings on your own. when you have to get out of bed in the morning especially. i got to stumble out of bed, all groggy, snooze the alarm without feeling any guilt for waking the person next to me, (perhaps unfortunately, i have no feelings for my next door neighbors, and no compunctions about waking them up) and morning-stumble my way around the house, making as much or as little noise as i chose. i didn't have to be human, or even pretend. and that was great.
now i am at work, happily procrastinating here on LJ and munching a San Diego bagel. the bagels had just come out of the oven when i got them, so it was all fresh and steaming. a San Diego bagel, for the uninitiated, is a plain bagel with cream cheese and a raspberry jalapeno spread.
no, i don't know why they call it a San Diego bagel either.
