Parents increasingly spend most of their time making sure their children have no experiences whatsoever and when schools aren't busy being inadequate they are busy being the subject of suspicion and while it's one thing to say everything I learned in life I learned from fiction; it's another thing to say everything I learned in life was from reality TV and wishing it could be me up there.
And that's where we are. Untempered hope and skepticism + utter lack of imagination = contempt.
