This day is becoming bizarre. I was just on Facebook having a discussion about porn, so when this dropped in my mailbox I was expecting something lighter. Chaddis! My family call them Jungees and I don't know if that's Indian or Burmese! And I am struggling with coherency. And spelling.
So, there is never ever an excuse for oppression, whether V-day is crap or not. Clearly it's being used as an excuse. Sad and ridiculous.
And I know there is a huge disparity in all things in India, particularly when you look at education and socio-economic status and how that translates into equality, politics etc. You don't need me to tell you this is a country where there are people who still believe in various forms of witchcraft. And where widows kill themselves and their daughters because they don't have the means for a dowry. So, maybe this is not surprising, but nonetheless outrageous. (There was a panties for peace thing going on in Burma). I'm not sure how much good it will do, but if it lends moral support to my fellow woman that's enough for me (I joined the Facebook thing immediately).
Such a shame that a few stupid men should see this as a threat. India has such a rich and beautiful cultural history when it comes to love and sex.
