i saw the gardeners doing the hedging this morning, they were dancing with the branches, stepping and winding and weaving and cutting. i didn't know that this was the season for hedging.

reminded me of the Grey King in the dark is rising series.
i really loved those books.

when the dark is rising
six shall turn it back
three from the circle,
three from the track
wood, bronze, iron,
water, fire, stone
five shall return
and one go alone...
