fictionalTonight I am seeing a little (meaning small in number) Coven of Doom (for everyone else), and I have heard that there might be RotK: EE watching.
Friends are good. Very good. I look forward to it greatly.

Before this however, I must suffer through a lecture on how to teach. Hooray! The people who teach pedagogy at my institution insist on talking to us like we are febrile five year olds: there is much emphasis on 'diversity' and 'teamwork' and 'understanding'. I don't think there is a word I hate more than 'teamwork' and all it implies. Well, okay, there are - but not at the moment.
Anyway, I don't think this says much for their actual teaching style.
I am not an idiot. I will assume, till otherwise proven, that the people I am about to teach are not idiots. Badly educated, perhaps. But not utter morons who are oblivious to condescension in all its forms.
Last one of these teaching workshops I had to attend, we had to go around the lecture hall, and everyone had to mention three things that they thought a successful college teacher must possess. I was the last one to speak (since I was hiding in the back). There was much mention of 'passion' and 'compassion' in various permutations. When my turn came, I said, "A sense of humor, scholastic & intellectual rigor, and a personality that commands a room".
Everyone looked at me like I had shot their favorite puppy. And the room broke out in horrified shouts. Apparently, we are only allowed to talk about things like "desire to help people" and "community" .
Fuck that. I'm just looking forward to the captive audience.
