I am chopping off my hair. At the moment it is quite long, and I intend to cut most of it off, in some sort of radical and new way. I am willing to spend as much money as necessary, but I want the place to be friendly and non-intimidating; at the same time, I want the cut to be really good. I have been going to dramaticsnyc, but while they do well enough for a trim or upkeep, I'm uncertain about their ability to do a really good cut.

Suggestions for places to go?

Thanks in advance.

Ask [livejournal.com profile] airspaniel and [livejournal.com profile] redstapler they both just got haircuts from someone who actually listened to directions and did interesting stuff. _If_ I cut mine off (um, drastically, surely you can guess the originating impulse), I'll probably use their person.

Nicole at Louis Licari Salon gives the best haircuts in the world. I think they cost $160.00, plus tips for the known universe. When I come to New York, I normally get cut there. One of my sisters with difficult hair uses her.

When I come in to New York this time, I will be seeing someone else as I can no longer afford Nicole. I will try and remember to get you the 411.

From my other sister: "His name is Brian and it is Lotus Salon the number is 608-7788. He is in 2 locations now. One on Prince and one on North Moore."

She also gets a wonderful haircut and I think it's about half the price.

What about the Beehive Salon? (www.thebeehivesalon.com) They have varying price levels, from $160 to $60, depending on which stylist you have and what you have done. Everyone I know who has been there is pretty stoked on it - I went with A one time and with N another time but have always been too much of a cheapskate to pay for a haircut myself. The vibe is very great - tea, a garden, etc - and non-threatening.

Did you get your haircut yet? I want to see it! I just cut mine pretty short (at least when compared to the length it was before.)

I also have a recommendation from other people, if you haven't gotten it cut yet.
