My personal Must Do in Chicago? The architecture walking tours -- both historical and modern. But I'm weird that way. Ask the guides especially about the great public sculptures -- there are monumental pieces by Picasso, Miro, Matisse, Chagall, Stella and others -- if memory serves. http://www.architecture.org/tours.aspx
The Art Institute is very good -- if you didn't have the Met in your home town it would be a Must See. If you can duck in for low admission for a few minutes, check out La Grande Jatte -- for me, it was one of those paintings where seeing the original really DID make a difference.
