I think it's the reason Torchwood does have such a dedicated fan-following on the internet, the fact that it allows for multiple views of the same event. They like it that way too; I can't recall who but it was either GDL or a writer who said that they like that of all the characters we know actually the least about Ianto (never seen his flat, very little known about his family) because it keeps him mysterious. :D
I don't think that in and of itself the story is especially disturbing or unsettling for fandom. Considering what they get up to in the HP fandom, a bit of bloodplay isn't exactly shocking in a Torchwood fic. For me it's more the way the personalities are portrayed that is unnerving. But -- as I said -- not OOC, which is nice.
On the other hand, I'm already freaking out with separation anxiety! I've gotten pretty attached to these boys taking up residence in my head.
I don't know if you've done longfics before, but I have done a few and it always feels that way -- especially once you finish. There's this great rush of triumph that it's done, my god, look at what I've accomplished, and then for about a week afterwards you find yourself thinking "There's something I should be doing -- oh, wait. No there isn't."
But then of course you know, just because you finish this one doesn't mean you can't write others. *grins* Writers with a solid grasp of voice and character and grammar all combined are all too rare in any fandom, and in Torchwood anyone who doesn't portray Ianto as a jealous, insecure weeper is to be welcomed with open arms. :D
