oh, dear...

so many disturbing dreams. so little time.
last night was insane. i don't recall having ever having so many different ones all in one night.
the scary part was i didn't want to wake up.
i kept thinking that if i could just stay asleep then i could make things come out right.
the weirdest one involved a guy in cowboy boots, a beautiful model type in the style of liv tyler snorkeling, and an old fat warty woman.
i thought i was the beauty, but i woke up and realised i was the other woman.
::sigh:: that was the weirdest one, but by no means the least disturbing.

now, things are piling up on me, and the frenzy of too-much-to-do starts up again.
gotta make like west side story, and jet.

pages and pages...

...and it's all ahead.
i just got my acceptance to the honors program.
and what did she win, folks?
the right to write (hee!) an incredibly long thesis and defend it against a host of hostile (on a roll today!) professors, or ones pretending to be hostile anyway.
the right to stay here in this frozen wasteland one extra semester.
the right to add even more tough courses to her overloaded schedule.
not for the faint of heart.

but seriously, i am deeply pleased.
i did it. i pulled myself out of this hole that i'd deposited myself in.
i feel smart. and i haven't felt that for ages.
my advisor told me that she thinks i'm finally back where i belong.

belong. what a nice word.
and now, back to work. the day continues, and threatens to leave me behind, my tasks undone.

things that never cease to amaze

• how a roomful of college students can be brought to tears of helpless laughter at a teacher or t.a. making jokes involving excrement.
  
• how i think sucking in gasps of freezing air will somehow ease the burning sensation on my tongue brought about by slurping hot soup too fast
  
• how the weather here can go from balmy to blizzard-like in less time than anyone might think.
