based on books...
Mar. 4th, 2002 02:52 pmwell, i've been a bad bad kali-chan today.
i didn't go to any of my classes, and i blew off an appointment i had, and i wouldn't be at work, but i had stuff to finish that i'm way behind on.
i had a pretty decent weekend, all things considered. i guess i just didn't want it to be over.
d. picked me up from work on friday evening, and we headed off towards the mall (gods, i hate that mall) and we wandered around and bought Tron at best buy, and then went on to see Queen of the Damned. i was not impressed, to say the least. i mean, damn. i have yet to understand why it is that movie makers who have a book right in front of them will completely ignore the whole premise of the book in favor of their far more idiotic ideas. there were a few really pretty scenes, and i felt that some of the actors had potential, but that just made the whole movie so much worse. it's like they had the potential to make a fun cheezy (and i mean that as a compliment) vampire flick, and then they just totally messed it up. i still had a fun time though. seeing a bad movie can be almost as fun as seeing a good movie, if you take it in the right spirit. afterwards we hiked home from the mall, a fun three mile walk or so, and hopped into bed.
then on saturday night, after all my house-things were done (or rather not done, but successfully procrastinated) i headed back down the hill. we went out to this little bar on the bank of the lake, ostensibly to listen to Buddha Spaceship, a couple of guys who do live PA stuff, kinda jungly. when we got there though, the bar was practically empty and there was one lone guy with a guitar on stage. we almost turned back right there, but after walking all that way it seemed a shame to just leave. so we went in, and found some of the lost boys at a table inside. the guitar guy was actually really excellent, he did a lot of really cool looping, and self recording, and had an amazing voice. so that ended up being fun. and Buddha Spaceship (who appeared later) was also really good, even if i'm not the big jungle fan. i got kind of drunk, and actually danced a bit (ssh, don't tell anyone!) and talked to people, and went outside and got high. acted not like myself generally speaking. or at least not the self that's usually evident. after it was over the lost boys accompanied us home, and we all proceeded to get even more blazed. all in all, a good night.
on sunday, we did absolutely nothing. well almost. at about 8, we headed out to the grocery store, a fair long distance and bought dates and grapes and cheese and crackers and sausage and PUDDING and oreos. and we also rented two movies, Jay and Silent Bob strike back, and the Musketeer. we didn't watch Jay and Silent Bob yet, just the Behind the Scenes, and the deleted scenes (like two hours worth, great stuff) but we did watch the other one. and oh dear gods. how bad it was. a few amazing fight scenes, but other than that just basically the worst movie better. it made Queen of the Damned look like oscar material. i think the best part was when they crawled into the palace THROUGH THE SEWERS! sewers! in the seventeenth century. especially since in the production notes, the director notes that his movie took place in a time when there was no plumbing or electricity and everything was dirty i might add that nothing was dirty in this movie, their boots stayed polished the entire way through. and there were spinning pistols, and peasant riots through castles, and 100 musketeers storming a castle that had cannons. and WINNING in about 15 minutes. and someone gets shot through the chest and LIVES. and that's not even mentioning what they did to the plot and the characters. Why, I ask you? WHYYYYYY! they HAD a perfectly good plot. why did they have to ruin it? pay the research dept a little extra, hell hiring a research dept. would be a good start! not to mention if they just wanted to tell some swashbuckling tale of musketeers and derring do, why did they have to butcher a pre existing story? why not make up their own???
i could go on for pages more, but i think i'll stop there.
anyway, the fulminating was fun. and now i suppose i should really get to work.
