leaving on a jet plane
Dec. 26th, 2003 09:52 pmAm leaving for India tomorrow. eep.
so far the plan is to arrive in Delhi, spend two days recovering from jet lag, fly to kolkata (calcutta). after a day there, take a two-day boat trip through the Sundarbans (literally 'beautiful forests') and see mangroves and tigers. (not sure how the two combine, but apparently will find out). then back to kolkata and a few days of glittering society, fancy dinners and plays in Bengali, followed by a return to Delhi. Then a two day trip to Agra and Fatehpur Sikhri to see Akbar's palace and the Taj Mahal again (that never gets old for me). Followed by another return to Delhi, and then training to Rajasthan where I get to see all the Rajput forts. There's supposed to be one hotel that is actually in a fort itself, which seems incredible. I'm hoping I get to ride a camel. After 10 days of cross country travel through the desert, we will fly back to Delhi, spend a couple of days recovering, and then home on February 5th. Updates will probably be spotty till then, as I don't know when I'll have net access. I will try to send post-cards however. E-mail me your addresses if you want one!
