One moment of truth
Aug. 18th, 2005 11:23 pmComprehensives tomorrow. I am off to bed. I think I've pretty much done all I can. I am, truth be told, quite nervous. But I suppose I will go in there, and say what I can, as well as I can.
Everyone has been extremely kind, and I'm quite shocked by it, honestly. People in other cohorts have called, and left messages of luck; those who cannot celebrate with me afterwards (or condole, as the case may be) for distance reasons have all asked me to call afterwards, just so they can hear how it went; I have received two care packages, one full of amazing snacks of fortitude, which filled me with joyous surprise, and then today, another full of hand-ease things.
I feel very blessed. And I don't say that often.
In the end, I get to go in there and write about books that I love. Perhaps it's a gift as well as a burden.
But it doesn't change the fact that I am nervous.
This is, in the end about winnowing the wheat from the chaff, and it's something that I'm sure I would respect even more under other circumstances. Now, I just hope I'm wheat, is all.
Wish me luck!
