Eleven is starting to grow on me, and not even like a fungus.

I will always miss DT. But. I think Matt Smith's going to be... not fan-tas-tic, or brilliant... but... perhaps *waves fingers about in vaguely alien & excited fashion* excellent. Well, watch it. You'll see.

It's really going to depend on the writing and the direction. There's something slower, more disconnected about him than DT. If I were directing him, just from that interview, I see a real capacity for sorrow (as opposed to emo self-torture like we've have from the last two Doctors). There's a lot, I think, to do with him and just quiet/stillness, although yes, we'll be able to see the evolution from Ten to Eleven with ease -- so much so, I wonder if it doesn't need to be a plot point. It's hard for me to imagine the Doctor fighting a regeneration, and yet, that's the plot I want to write with what we know so far.

I see a lot of potential there. Of course, it's really going to depend, but I have hope, and I think there's a lot of capacity, both for darkness, and for joy. And that's what's important to me.

Colin Baker fought it...kind of.

He was teh crazy "something has gone WRONG with my regen!" doctor.

I like the waving-fingers-about thing. My autistic nephew and I do that a lot.

He's got potential. XD

Lol. Oh yeah. Really curious what the Jack/11 chemistry will be if Jack's going to be back in Who with him. Because that Doctor, as you said above, there might be capacity for new qualities in emotional output there, just through the emotional development that the Doctor has gone through from 9 to 10 and now 11, but quite a bit will depend on the circumstances of the regeneration, and how far it is going to 'change' him past the appearance.

Joking about in random email earlier:

Jack: You're young, you're cute -- okay, you're weird cute, but whatever -- I could show you a thing or three.
Eleven: Jack. I am 900-years-old. Has the notion of unlikely _ever_ crossed your mind?
Jack: *laciviously* constantly.
Eleven: *rolls eyes*
Ianto: Wow, I thought I hated you _before_.
Eleven: And you, Mr. Jones, have not gotten more charming.
Gwen: Boys! Work to do?
Jack: Give us a second....
Gwen: What? To be emo and doomed?
Ianto: Basically.

Hah Exactly! See I totally get the weird cute thing. As someone who'd very much like to fuck Reid of Criminal Minds (here (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Rgk1LCaY7_Y/RmHn3I4LrHI/AAAAAAAAA1A/in7gnVSsojU/s1600-h/spencer+reid.jpg) and here (http://www.daemonstv.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/96832_d0560b.thumbnail.jpg)) I suppose it isn't overly surprising either.

I would like to see more of the Nine type character darkness than the 10 type character darkness that they had, but would happily settle on a Doctor that can look Jack in the eye without a queasy stomach, and whose self-hate doesn't extend to thinking he needs to be alone.

Also, I would like to see an older companion, but I am not sure I'm ready to deal with a woman written as mothering. I'd happily settle on an older guy, but the running might get a bit difficult when we get to a certain age range there.

Although Ten has grown on me (and I love David Tennant in almost everything he does including Cassanova and Eddings), Four (Tom Baker) and Nine (Chris Eccleston) are still my favourite Doctors. I grew up with the later Three episodes (Jon Pertwee) and all of Four and did not like (and so did not watch) any of the Doctors after that until Eight (the one episode/film only Doctor, Paul McGann). I only realised tonight just how much Chris Eccleston was channelling Tom Baker's Doctor in his rendition The Doctor - I am wondering if Tom was Chris' Doctor as well...

P.S. I just love the way Matt Smith wiggles his fingers when he talks - I hope that his Doctor # Eleven does so as well - I can just picture him doing that as he says "Timey Wimey"!

P.P.S. You might find this interesting… (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1104727/Doctor-Who-Unknown-actor-Matt-Smith-26-announced-David-Tennants-replacement.html)

Chris Eccleston is someone I liked when I watched him, then I fell head over heels with Tennant when he was on, and still like his interpretation, but in review, and rewatching the new season 1s, I adore Eccleston's intensity, his darkness he brought to the role. (I love Tennant in his non-Doctor things he does and was therefore actually happy when he announced he was leaving 'cause it means he'd be doing more of those in the future). I have watched bits and pieces of Tom, probably have to go back to watch more since I'm apparently more of a Three fanboy when it comes to the classic renditions. But-- one more reason to check Tom Baker eps out properly.

And yeah, love the fingers-bit. And 'excited' might just become a bit of a tagline there.

He reminds me of Sir Patrick Moore (the astronomer), and don't ask me why as I am sure no one else will get that vibe. Maybe because he has that whole frightfully posh eccentric thing going on.
Whatever he looks like now (haircut, clothes etc) really has nothing to do with what we're going to see in a YEAR. And apart from DT none of the previous Doctors have been lookers. Still I think if he does get to meet Capt Jack there may be a bit of the JJ's in the Torchwood camp.
Enough said. I have plenty else to keep myself busy in 2009!

That interview made just a little bit more excited about the choice, but I'm not completely comfortable with it yet. I looked at him the first ten times and saw a Buffy character. Really didn't seem like what I'd expect of the Doctor. From all the names I had seen speculated before, none were actors younger than Tennant, and I guess I was half expecting him to be older. I only started to watch Doctor Who with Ecclestone, and then Tennant seemed even younger and colorful and all that, and I really wanted to see a Doctor more like the older ones (I was sooooo hoping David Morrissey would be it!). So couldn't avoid disappointment when I saw Smith. But that interview made me have second thoughts. I mean, I've never doubted he'd make a good Doctor because, well, I suppose they could've chosen almost anyone for the part. If they went for him, they had a good reason.

I'm not comfortable looking at him yet, but now I'm reeeeally eager - and excited - to see how it'll go.

And, yes, Jack will have big anime sparkling eyes when he sees that Doctor. Although I think it would be interesting if that appearance caused some sort of reverse reaction on Jack - it's almost (almost?) too wrong to be the Doctor. But it's Jack, that'll never happened. He'd be jumping and drooling over the Doctor even if he regenerated into Chewbacca.
