it's a mystery...
Mar. 29th, 2002 04:33 amwell, i finished my work. it actually took me all of one hour after i settled down with it.
*sigh*
i need to go to bed. why am i online??
the world may never know.
my teeth always hurt when i've been up for too long.
does this happen to anyone else? or am i just a total freakshow?
i'd really like to come out with something poetic, or beautiful (i'd settle for clever or funny too)
just something to justify why i'm fooling around on LJ at 4:30am.
but i'm coming up with nada.
i think i'll take my own advice and crash. maybe my central processing unit will have come up with something other than glitches by then.
here's hoping...

assorted thoughts
Mar. 29th, 2002 02:37 pmthere is a tibetan monastery not far from here, and frequently we'll see the monks on campus, teaching, or leading services, but most often just wandering around, wearing their crimson robes and shaved heads with looks of amused and compassionate tolerance for all the rest of us.
i saw one today, with what appeared to be his family, a man, a woman and their little girl with poker straight black hair, and a see through plastic backpack that i kinda wanted for myself. the monk had very sticky-out-ears and a wrinkled face...
and he was looking at his niece (at least i assumed it was his niece) with very interesting eyes...
i don't know why this stuck me exactly, but it did.
i've handed in all my work for this week. still got financial stuff to take care of for my trip to Europe (why all this paperwork bullshit can never be simple is beyond my understanding) and my parents are stopping by at some point this evening for dinner and what not. i wish i wasn't so tired.
i slept for about six hours last night (longer than i should have) and had the oddest dreams about being published, and winning some scholarly prize for writing. and then we were somehow standing in front of Goldwyn Smith Hall, and my adopted aunt and her husband had come to collect me and take me home, and then all of ithaca began dancing a collective jig, complete with music and maypoles. twas weird.
i like writing down and remembering my dreams, and i know that some poet once wrote an entire book of poetry based on actual dreams that she had, but i can't imagine how she could have done that. it seems impossible for me to describe mine without a lengthy series of "and thens", not the best literary construction, if you get my drift.
it's a beautiful day today, tee shirt weather even. i saw a few patches of blue this morning, but now cloud cover seems to have taken over. i'd be sad, but it will be good for the flowers. i can't wait for spring to burst into bloom. allergies be damned!

more reasons to worry now...

ANNOUNCEMENT March 27, 2002
This Public
Announcement is being issued to alert U.S. citizens because of a
possible threat to U.S. citizens in the cities of Venice, Florence,
Milan and Verona on Easter Sunday from extremist groups. This Public
Announcement expires on April 25, 2002.
As stated in the
Department of State's Worldwide Caution dated March 17, 2002, the
U.S. Government continues to receive credible reports that extremists
are planning additional terrorist actions against U.S. interests. The
U.S. Government has learned that a possible threat exists to U.S.
citizens in the cities of Venice, Florence, Milan and Verona on
Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002, from extremist groups.
This warning does not include Rome as a site of possible
terrorist activity, but it is always possible that Rome will be
included in future State Department bulletins. Therefore, we ask you
to forward this e-mail to your families and to discuss with them your
proposed trip to Italy. Should Art Studio & Creative Writing
Workshop in Rome summer program be cancelled by Cornell, each student
will receive full refunds. (As some of you
know, the Cornell Hebrew course in Israel was cancelled shortly after
Nine Eleven.)
After Nine Eleven, the security at Palazzo Lazzaroni, the
Cornell Rome facility, was updated. Security cameras were installed,
giving a view of the street outside and a view of the entry doors
inside. Also, on the advice of security specialists, wooden and glass
doors were replaced with steel doors.
At the departure meeting (annoucement to come) or via e-mail
(for those of you not presently on the Cornell Ithaca campus), we
will be making recommendations to you, based on State Department
recommendations and our own experience traveling and living in Italy,
about sensible precautions to take in order to drawing attention to
yourself as an American abroad.
sykii is in italy over easter, not in any of those cities fortunately.
i'm going to light candles and such as soon as possible.
