the sucker fish are mating and trying to climb up the gorge waterfalls.
it's quite amazing to watch them go. i thought they might be salmon at first. they spur themselves forward with this rapid fire tail wiggle. i thought that they were going to start skimming over the water surface walking on their fins. d. and i spent hours watching them yesterday, (it was better than the discovery channel) and watching some kids try to harpoon them...
man: ahh...nature. let's kill it!!
i played hooky today. it was great. i woke up amazingly early, (i wanted to mail off my taxes and financial aid, which i did, go me!) and then hung out with some of the lost boys & girls outside of d's apt. i was actually kind of surprised to see 'em up that early. the only reason i was even remotely functional was because i had put myself to bed at around nine when the night rang with the death knell of boredom, and i knew it could not be saved. it turned out all for the best though.
today has been beautiful and hot. we went out and sat by the gorge, smoked, and drank a little beer, and watched the waterfall and tanned and played our feet in the water and skipped rocks and read our books. i'm currently re-reading julian may's galactic milieu trilogy. i'd forgotten how i love those books. they're so interwoven and amazingly cool. politics, good sci-fi, elves, great characters. yeah, love 'em.
i even talked to some people, and didn't feel the level of uncomfortable in my own skin that i usually do. (more about that on another day, when i'm not feeling this good.)
i came to work, even though i didn't want to. but alas, i need the money. nevertheless, my inner beach bun is screaming. later, however i plan an exciting evening with "a fish called wanda" and "monty python and the holy grail". (the last one is an assignment for class though, honest.)
