it is very hard to feel sad in the fall. at least for me.
the air is crisp and clean, with a slight bite on the end of it. bright blue skies that i can call "azure" in the silence of my head without feeling false. huge puffy white clouds and painfully gorgeous sunsets, thunderstorms.
it's the perfect temperature for long walks and deep breaths, and i love feeling my cashmere coat swing about me, as my heels click against the pavement. even with all this work piling up around me, i feel...hopeful. autumn always feels like the beginning of things to me.
i played hooky yesterday. it was really fun, and i'm not a bit sorry. it was apple festival down on the commons this past weekend. we went on sunday and devoured apple crepes with whipped cream, and *real* potato pancakes with dollops of sour cream and apple sauce. then went exploring, and found the annual booksale: a huge warehouse completely filled with books. On the 13th the price of every book goes down to 10 cents, and i plan to be there to stock up. then walked home, cheeks red with cold, and walked into the warm house and ate arugula and goat cheese sandwiches, and drank tea with lemon and honey, watched tv and snuggled and made love. a really perfect day. haven't had one of those in a while.
and now...back to work. essay on rehtoric, and the thesis chapter on Sir Calidore and the virtue of courtesy await me.
