oh, and i forgot to mention, that in addition to yelling at me for the IM thing, which makes NO sense considering i finish all my assignments properly and ahead of time, (all the assignments that have nothing to do with my job description, i might add) my boss sent out an e-mail to everyone in the office, notifying them that i'd been reprimanded.

perhaps you should send an email reprimanding him for filling up people's inboxes with news of how you have a social life and people who love you, unlike your boss. i am focusing much negative energy on that petty dumbass.
