Pairing/Characters: Jack/Ianto, Ten, +TW team, +sundry members of DW Cast
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] rm & [livejournal.com profile] kalichan
Rating/Warning: NC-17, slash, plot, religion (!!), and porn.
Summary: Some people say goodbye and others say hello.
Wordcount: ~32,000 words, posted in five parts
Authors' Notes: This is the penultimate installment of our series, I Had No Idea I Had Been Traveling. The title is from a poem by Leonard Cohen; summary is, of course, courtesy The Beatles. Next up: the final installment of the main story arc, though we will be returning to the 'verse at some point after that for some digressions and interludes, and a DVD commentary! Just prior to this, we posted two prequels (one for Jack, and one for Ianto) which are fairly important to the conclusion of the series. They are numbered 8 & 9 in the links below if you'd like to catch up.

Previous installments:
1. A Strange Fashion of Forsaking | 2. Dear Captain, Last Night I Slept in Mutiny | 3. To Learn This Holding and the Holding Back | 4. The Most Beautiful Girl in the World | 5. I Imagine You Now in That Other City | 6. Many of My Favorite Things Are Broken | 6.5 Up, Down, Strange, Charm, Truth, Beauty: or, A Child's Guide to Modern Physics | 7. In Our Bedroom After the War | 8. And I Cannot Know How Long She Has Dreamed of All of You [Jack/Nine/Rose] | 9. The Spectacular Catastrophe of Your Endless Childhood [Ianto/OFCs, Ianto/Lisa]

While Tesco at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon wasn't Ianto's idea of heaven, it was something he found remarkably pleasant. )

Title: The Spectacular Catastrophe of Your Endless Childhood
Pairing/Characters: Ianto [Ianto/OFCs, Ianto/Lisa]
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] rm & [livejournal.com profile] kalichan
Rating/Warning: NC-17, het, pre-slash
Summary: The early education and adventures of Ianto Jones.
Wordcount: ~11,000 [posted in 2 parts]
Authors' Note: This is a prequel to our Jack/Ianto series, I Had No Idea I Had Been Traveling. You don't have to read the rest of the series to read this though. However, if you are reading that, you should read this, as it will be useful/relevant later. It takes place pre-series, and ends just before Doctor Who 2x12: Army of Ghosts begins, i.e. right before the Battle of Canary Wharf. Next up, we return to the main story arc for two more stories which will conclude our series, although after it is done, we plan to return to the 'verse to fill in some gaps and pursue some digressions, such as Jack's childhood on the Boeshane Peninsula, Jack's time on the Valiant, and some interstitial Jack/Ianto adventures (sexual & otherwise!) during season 1 and post-season 2.
Authors' Note, part deux: Ianto's travels abroad clearly owe a great deal to our own, and also to those of [livejournal.com profile] faris_nallaneen who was generous enough to allow him to share some of the nuts and bolts of her German experience, since neither of us had ever been there.

Summary: The moral of the story is never let Jack make the travel plans. Takes place just after Torchwood: Lost Souls [The Radio Play] and sometime before Doctor Who 4x13: Journey's End
Wordcount: 7,200
Authors' Notes: This is a little outtake from our series, I Had No Idea I Had Been Traveling. It takes place sometime after "Many of My Favorite Things Are Broken" and before "In Our Bedroom After the War". This one's just a little bit of candy floss for all of you who were sad that we were turning our attention to prequels! Speaking of which, if you're reading the series, you will probably want to go take a look at the Jack/Nine/Rose story, And I Cannot Know How Long She Has Dreamed of All of You that we've just posted; it will be relevant to the rest of the main story arc.

Many of My Favorite Things Are Broken

Jack scrubbed a hand over his face as he realized that begging, pleading, and flashing his Torchwood credentials to get a room at an overbooked airport hotel was desperately a task he wanted to hand over to Ianto. )

Authors: [livejournal.com profile] rm & [livejournal.com profile] kalichan
Rating/Warning: NC-17, het, slash, recreational intoxication (everyone not Jack is too uptight!!)
Summary: In which Captain Jack Harkness learns a new dance. Begins just after Doctor Who 1x10: The Doctor Dances, and goes on to bookend Doctor Who 1x11: Boomtown.
Wordcount: ~18,500, posted in three parts
Authors' Notes: This is a part of our Jack/Ianto series, I Had No Idea I Had Been Traveling. While it can be considered a prequel, it is in this position in the arc (after significant Jack/Ianto relationship development) for a timey-whimey reason, which will become clear later. You don't have to read the rest of the series to read this though. However, if you are reading that, you should read this, as it will be useful/relevant later.

This is really pretty cool. Dear Captain, Last Night I Slept In Mutiny seems to have won a Skiffy Award for "Best of Jack Harkness: Romance". Winning stuff is always pretty neat, and this particular story is very dear to our hearts, but really the best thing about this is the company "Dear Captain..." is in. SRSLY. Go to the award page and check out all the winners and runners up. It is a fabulous reading list, full of fantastic stories by people who need no introduction, but are followed avidly, and some lesser known pieces that deserve more recognition. Go. Read. Fanperson the authors. I think the idea of having character-centric awards for particular types of depiction is a really spectacular one for fandom, as it highlights so precisely what we're trying to do here; honor fictional universes certainly, but also bring to life the people who, for whatever reason, and in whatever flavor, have colonized our brains. Thanks to whoever nominated us (you rock, whoever you are!) and any of you who might have voted.

More story very soon!

Authors' Notes: This is the seventh installment of our series, I Had No Idea I Had Been Traveling. The title is from a song (and the album) by Stars. This is the first piece of this arc we’ve really had to write concurrent to an episode, because of the woeful lack of Torchwood Hub in DW 4x13. This means if you've not watched Journey's End, that the first part of the story might not make as much sense as it could. Here is a link to a brief recap, a full recap, a funny recap (with captioned pictures) or just the transcript -- in case you want to know what, exactly, is going on. Or you could just dive in and hope for the best! Next up, we'll be posting a Jack/Nine/Rose followed by a few other prequels covering the early education and adventures of both Jack and Ianto before returning to where we’ve left off with them in this timeline.

Thanks, Gareth. ;-) I'm sure Rach will post about this in detail later, and then y'all can hear about g.d.l.'s favorite line (eye candy!), the fact that his ass hurts, and other such tidbits. Authors' Notes: Hi! We have finally found a name for this arc: I Had No Idea I Had Been Traveling. Since we are now officially calling it an arc with a plan and all, we should note that there are several more stories to come including a story post-Exit Wounds, another one post-Journey's End and two more sequels that we don't want to divulge any more about at this time. You will also be seeing prequel pieces for both Jack and Ianto individually that will wrap the whole thing together. We are, believe it or not, going somewhere very specific here. Finally, not precisely part of this arc, but definitely in the same 'verse, we're apparently writing a fic about life on the Valiant, solely because we found the best title ever for it. Hope you enjoy the calm, such as it is, before the storm in this particular installment. Jack & Ianto don't know what's ahead. But you do...

Loyalty, Jack reflected as he watched Gwen steadily burn all those missing people fliers, was a double edged sword. What he couldn't quite figure out, despite the years of research he'd put into the problem, was which edge it was better to slit your throat with. )
